The
sign industry has come through a transformation in recent
years with the expansion of the use of computer designed
and produced signage. Whilst the use of computer cut
vinyl lettering and digital printing has greatly simplified
the production of signage, there is still a great need
for creativity and skilled tradesmen to produce signage
that really works. Sign boards are either used as supplied
in their raw form (ie. colorbond metal panels, acrylic
sheeting etc.) or they are prepared by painting a base
layer of paint over the raw material..

Signs
requiring "signwriting" are hand painted by tradesmen signwriters
on large sign walls where large panels and banners can be
hung. Large signs are laid out by projecting the image onto
the panel and then marking around the enlarged image directly
onto the sign.
More
straightforward signs are generally produced using a computer
vinyl cutting machine. The operator can compose the sign in
its various colours on the computer screen, and then cut each
of the various coloured vinyls on the cutting machine. The
cut vinyl letters or designs are then applied to the sign
panel or directly to windows, vehicles or displays.
